I laid down to go to bed the other night. And when I closed my eyes I saw the universe. And tiny red dot. The portal into our cosmos.

The void, the emptiness, the vastness of the stars hit me. The darkness and the light. How could I create a landscape of this memory? I felt that material of paint wasn’t it. I have been working with black sand for a while and it always represented the stars. I covered the canvas in sand, and I knew the light around me would do the rest. A red dot in the center of image, to represent the first color we see when we’re born into this world. Mirrored chrome edges, that bleed into the canvas to give it another level of tooth. The whole image is not a painting, but acts a memory brought into the world. I see the image but I feel the image in my mind, pulling up all my memories of looking up into the sky and seeing the stars. The cold mountain air, looking up, the endless ocean of light above me, wrapped in blanket of black.

The goal of my artwork is to act a mirror to this universe, a reminder of the world we live in, and to honor the power of a grain of sand.
